Welcome to Café Amargo,
Café is a notebook, a counterpoint to more rigorous work, a celebration of the brainstorm, of the intuition, of the quick response, the change of topic. It is out of focus. It is anti-brand. It diffuses and loses itself in the cracks of incoherence and paradox. It makes the half-thought public as a gesture of camaraderie with the brouillon. It is transient, ephemeral, journalistic. At times it can be vulgar, at other times dangerously distasteful, teetering at the tenuous border between the private and the public, between humor and gravitas. It is a collection of book reviews and anecdotes. It is the many books I’ll never write. Like a cafecito, it is bitter, strong and to the point. Like a good little cup of coffee, served in that fragile little ceramic kiss, it is a prelude to good afternoon conversation, a sally of courtesy meant to snare you into the disingenuous worlds of Caribbean discourse.
